Practical Travel Tips
Traveling can be one of life’s most enriching experiences, opening the door to new cultures, foods, and landscapes. However, keeping yourself healthy and energized is crucial to making the most of your journey. Here are some practical travel tips to ensure you enjoy every moment of your adventure. However, nothing can sideline your trip faster than digestive distress! No one likes to talk about it, but I will do it for you. I follow a pretty strict routine when I travel so that I can hit the ground running and make the most out of my trips.
Stay Hydrated
Hydration is key when traveling, whether you’re hopping on a plane, trekking through mountains, or exploring a bustling city. Dehydration can lead to fatigue, headaches, and other health issues that can put a damper on your trip. Carry a reusable water bottle and refill it whenever you have the chance. Not only is this eco-friendly, but it also keeps you refreshed and ready for the next adventure.
- Bring a collapsable water bottle and fill up at the airport: STOJO Collapsible Water Bottle ā Carbon Gray, 20oz / 592ml – Leak-Proof Reusable Silicone Travel Cup for Hot & Cold Drinks – Microwave & Dishwasher Safe
- I love these Ultima travel electrolytes and always have the lemon flavor in my bag: Original Variety pack
- For my beauty girlies, this is another powder I take on the daily for glowing skin: Super Beauty Elixir – 30 Day Pack
For overnight flights, I mix two big bottles of SmartWater with electrolytes and one smaller bottle with Glotrition and make it my goal to finish all three. I usually bring organic berries, grass-fed meat sticks and raw nuts and eat that instead of the disgusting, sodium laden airplane food. If youāve got room in your carry on (make room), bring something in a disposable container with lean protein and veggies and eat that instead. This isnāt the time to bring your steel bento boxes- you need protein and to stay hydrated if you are going to enjoy all of the amazing food at your destination.
Unpopular hot take- skip the booze on your flight! Itās going to make a bad situation worse.
Power Up with Strong Probiotics
A healthy gut is a happy gut, especially when you’re trying new foods that your body might not be accustomed to. Packing strong probiotics can help maintain your digestive health, boost your immune system, and keep your belly happy throughout your travels. Look for shelf-stable options that donāt require refrigeration, and make them a part of your daily routine while on the road.
- I like SEED probiotics and take two daily: Seed ā¢ The Evolution of Probiotics
- In addition to SEED, I also like to take a daily digestive enzyme to combat any rogue gluten/dairy that might be bothersome when traveling: https://a.co/d/a6XKZmp
- one of my kids’ gummy probiotics before bed with a nice cup of chamomile and no, I am not ashamed of being a little cozy grandma who likes to go to bed early and get up with the larks, in case you wondered: https://a.co/d/9orLJNV
Could this be overkill for you? Absolutely. This is the routine that works best for me.
Travel-Sized Coffee Packets
For many, mornings start with a steaming cup of coffee. But finding your favorite brew while traveling can sometimes be a challenge. Travel-sized coffee packets are a convenient solution, allowing you to enjoy your preferred flavor and strength wherever you are. They’re easy to pack and can be a comforting taste of home when you’re far away.Ā I usually bring my mug with me or buy one at the airport so that I can make a bigĀ mug, especially in Europe where this is not fashionable or the norm.
Just call me your favorite Eagle Scout.
I am an early riser, or as my Spaniard friends call it- la madrugada (the space of time after midnight but before dawn).
The secret to practical travel is being prepared for whatever inconveniences might arise. The combo of a portable tea pot (for hot water when you are staying at a less than fantastic establishment) and coffee ātea bagsā has saved me many a morning from the dreaded caffeine headache that coincides with room service not starting until 8am.
- Purity Coffee is my jam: Organic Single-Serve Coffee Bags | Purchase Organic Coffee Single-Serve Bags Online – Purity Coffee
- And for my dairy avoiding queens, these arenāt overly delicious but they are the best travel option Iāve found and they get the job done: Kuju Coffee Cloud Creamer Singles – Sugar Free Coconut Coffee Creamer Powder – Non Dairy, Vegan, Individual Creamers for Travel, Backpacking (8 Pack)
Portable Tea Pots
If you’re a tea enthusiast, a portable tea pot is a must-have travel companion. These compact devices allow you to brew your favorite loose-leaf teas on the goāperfect for a calming ritual in the midst of a busy travel schedule. A practical traveller’s dream: theyāre lightweight and easy to clean, making them an ideal addition to your packing list.
- I get cranky without a hot bevvie on the road, what can I say. If you are like me, be prepared for a lackluster room without a hot water option: Travel Electric Kettle Portable Small Mini Tea Coffee Kettle Water Boiler, Water Heater with 4 Temperature Control,304 Stainless Steel with Auto Shut-Off & Boil Dry Protection, BPA-Free (White)
I did get stopped by TSA for this once, but the guy was like- āuhhhhhh, guys? This is just a water bottle.ā Thatās right, sir. Thanks for unpacking my entire suitcase for that, but I digress. Maybe keep it in your carry on just to be sure you donāt have any overzealous TSA action.
Laxative Tea for a Happy Belly
Travel can sometimes disrupt your regular digestive routine. To ease any discomfort, consider bringing along some laxative tea. This gentle option can help maintain regularity and alleviate bloating, ensuring your belly stays happy and healthy. Remember to use these teas sparingly and consult with a healthcare provider if you have any concerns.
Listen, even with your plane routine on point, all of the hydration, skipping booze, eating light and clean- your digestion can suffer from the pressure changes and the crummy sleep. The night you get to your destination, brew up a cup of this with a bag of chamomile and head to bed on schedule.
Is this the grossest name for a tea ever?
Perhaps, but it is a godsend on the road. I always have this in my bag, along with some extra magnesium just in case. I will tell you that I have traveled with a friend used the Smooth Move against my advice right before dinner instead of before bed…and well, she regretted that choice. That is to say, it works. It works best overnight and thatās what you need to know.
By keeping these practical travel tips in mind, you can focus on creating memories rather than dealing with discomfort.
