And the search for the perfect orange.
Have you read the 5 love languages? It’s one of those books that people reference frequently- like, oooh- what is your love language? Do you know their love language et al. It really comes down to how you give and receive love, going so far as to say that if you are giving love to someone in a “different (love) language,” they might not recognize it as love. A love lost in translation, if you will. We’re all theoretically trying our best to love each other but sometimes that doesn’t connect in the way we’d like. I was peeling an orange this morning and it was *so perfect* that I thought to myself, this must be the grandchild of the oranges 🍊 put in the Christmas stockings in days of yore and the kids would be excited for… an ORANGE! In my stocking! I have a neighbor that spends time every week picking out the best fruit he can find at the market for his children, which is such a kind thing when you think about it- super loving. I wonder if when they’re older and have their own kids if they’ll pick up an orange and remember the joy of a perfectly selected piece of fruit for someone you love. I think about the sweetness of the servers at the little place in Ravello bringing over a small plate of the most perfect yellow melon- “some fr-uit?”- with a knowing smile that this was melon season and that we’d never forget this plate. Why so many writers have tried to capture the beauty of someone handing you a ripe peach, full of summer sunshine. There are so many ways to put your love into the world, to bear witness to other people’s love languages and appreciate them for the thread that ties us all together. #dtmf #travel #lovelanguage #oranges#bookstagram #booklover
